It’s Soul and R&B night on American Idol and let’s see who will have a voice to match tonight’s theme. Maybe Michael Lynche? We’ll find out too if Siobhan will follow the judges’ advice by taking her screams down a level. Usher will be the one mentoring the kids.

So let’s get the show on the road with the top 10 American Idols.

Siobhan Magnus – Through the Fire by Chaka Khan

That nasally voice sounds really awkward at the start of the song. The high notes were a bit pitchy, a weakness maybe? Randy commented on her pitch and says that performance not one of her best. Kara says her low notes weren’t that strong while Simon says he’s getting bored with her screaming at the end. Awww.

Casey James – Hold On, I’m Coming by Sam and Dave

Nice pick Casey, your voice fits right in. Randy says he showed a lot of vocal range. Kara agrees but wants him to go acoustic next time to show more range. Simon says it was his strongest week so far.

Mike’s on his guitar playing in the middle of the audience behind the judges. Ellen says she typically doesn’t want people singing on her back but Mike’s performance was beautiful. Simon says he can take him seriously as an artist now.

Didi Benami – What Becomes of the Brokenhearted by Jimmy Ruffiin

I don’t know why the judges didn’t like it. I like what she did with the song although she didn’t connect with it despite saying that the song is very personal for her. Randy says it flat-lined for him. Ellen says it was very dramatic but not her best. Kara says she overdid it and Simon agrees saying it was too over the top. Poor Didi.

Tim Urban – Sweet Love by Anita Baker

Wow. I haven’t heard him sing like that before. I like the first half better. Randy says it was so pedestrian, like a waiter singing. Ellen questioned her song choice. Simon says the song was inappropriate for him but knows that Tim will still stay because people will vote for him.

Andrew Garcia – Forever by Chris Brown

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Acoustic Chris Brown. Ellen says it was amazing. Kara’s very happy that he took a giant leap in the right direction. Simon says it was miles better than his previous performances although he needs to work on his personality some more.

Katie Stevens – Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin

That didn’t suck at all. I was thinking she’d be in the bottom three performance-wise but she did good tonight. Randy says it was one of the best vocals of the night and compared her to a young Christina (Aguilera). Ellen says it was great but wished she made the song more current. Kara and Simon are at it again offering contradicting advices.

Lee Dewyze – Treat Her Like a Lady by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose

Very nice Lee. I’m digging this guy now. He has the alternative rock voice going for him. Randy says it was unbelievable and Ellen says the night has just started. Kara thinks that song could be on his record and Simon wants him to watch this life-changing performance back home. Ultra-pimp from the judges!

Crystal Bowersox – Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips

She took Kara’s advice in leaving the guitar so she started out with the piano. I love this one! Another strong performance from Crystal. Randy says she did Gladys Night proud. Kara’s glad she took that risk and can’t wait to see what she got for next week. Sensational choice of song says Simon and wants her to do what’s comfortable for her (he thinks the piano was uncomfortable for her).

Aaron Kelly – Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers

Boring way to end the night. There’s nothing different with it. Shaun Smith of Britain’s Got Talent sang it better. Simon says it was like cupcake. He heard the song so many times on the show which were sung more brilliantly (Kris Allen?).

Prediction

For the girls, only Crystal showed up tonight. I choose Lee Dewyze as the best performer of the night followed by Andrew Garcia. I think his version of Forever will get a lot of downloads from iTunes.

It’s hard to choose a bottom three after tonight. If based on performance, my bottom three will be Siobhan, Didi and Aaron. But since this is also a popularity contest, my bottom three prediction will be Didi Benami, Katie Stevens and Aaron Kelly. Katie will probably go home which would leave the girl count down to three.
