Globe Run for Home 2010 5km experience
Globe Run for Home 2010 was pretty much a success for me. I was quite excited to run this race because the route will cover the Makati Business District, a change of scene from the usual The Fort or MOA routes.

Coach Rio and his team did a wonderful job organizing the event. I thought there would be hitches after a lot of people were complaining with the registration and singlet delivery but come race day, everything went smoothly, for us 5km at least.
Here’s what I like about this year’s Globe Run for Home:
- Ayala route was well thought of. Thank you for taking us downhill and uphill in Greenbelt. Thank you for letting us 5km’ers step onto the Buendia flyover which is usually reserved for long distances.
- Prompt gun start. Even though they changed the gun starts a few days before the run, they followed it to the letter.
- No vehicular traffic. There were no vehicles on the road for the 5km runners. No problem crossing the streets at all unlike at The Fort.
- Lots of Powerade drinks at the finish line. There was a very loooonngg booth for Powerades when you cross the finish line because we didn’t see a water station at the 4km mark.
- Fairly accurate distance. My Nike+ Sportband registered a 5.06 km while my friend got 5.1 km on her Nike+.
As for things I don’t like? Not much really. Maybe the singlet size. The “Large” size which I often get from other runs is still small for me. I went with my adidas KOTR singlet instead.
The Facebook live update is not really made for short distances. For 5km, only the start and finish appeared in Facebook statuses. Mine was missing though despite installing the app already.
Also, there’s the misplaced 2km mark. My Sportband was already reading 2.7km when I saw the 2km mark. At that time I thought of the adidas run last year which evolved into a 5.6km run. Good thing it still panned out at the end.
Overall it was a very nice run. One of the best I’ve ran in fact. I hope the Makati Business District route will become a staple for future runs. Thanks Globe and thanks Runrio. Hope we helped Habitat for Humanity a lot with this run. Till next year.
