Pacquiao dominates Clottey but fans were disappointed

Although Pacquiao won his match against Clottey, it was quite a disappointing night for the fans. It’s not because they want Clottey to win or Pacquiao didn’t fight well but in what could probably be Pacquiao’s last fight, it was pretty anti-climactic no thanks to Clottey’s fighting style.

Ghana’s Joshua Clottey did a bang-up job imitating a punching bag during the fight which lasted the whole 12 rounds in which Pacquiao won by scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109. Very lopsided scoring brought by Pacquiao’s flurry of punches (832 more than Clottey). He basically threw everything he got including the kitchen sink while Clottey spent most of the time covering up.

Pacquiao vs. Clottey

Manny Pacquiao came out roaring in round 1 letting Clottey feel his power. This prompted Clottey to just put up his arms and defend for the rest of the fight. Clottey’s trainer told HBO’s Max Kellerman between rounds that Clottey was being cautious because he’d felt Pacquiao’s power and didn’t like it.

While hiding behind his hands, Clottey must be daydreaming on what he will do with the million dollar purse money. Even his trainer wanted him to go out and fight and take some risks.

Ouch

Pacquiao even let Clottey hit him at times to encourage him to throw more punches but Clottey knew that throwing more punches will leave him more open. He just picked his punches, which were surprisingly solid, but Pacquiao developed a strong chin I guess.

FPJ move

The highlight of the fight, which I think everyone would agree, was Pacquiao’s double-hook punch on the sides of Clottey’s head in round four which earned him a warning from the referee. Hehehe. Very FPJ-like.

I’ll try to scour the net for some good quality downloads of the replay for those who wants to view the fight again.

  1. Hahah. That scene was the funniest. Double hook left & right. Anyway, Clottey was a good sparring partner.

Bawal ba ang double hook? It could be the new boxing technique named after pacquiao. :)

If clottey engaged more and gave a good fight his reputation after this event would have become more popular but i think this didn’t help his career much.

no knockout, the fight wasn’t that interesting but at least the full 12 rounds meant it was good value PPV wise.
