Trying out the Sony Cybershot DSC-W380
When I asked our good friends at Sony if I could borrow a point-and-shoot camera for our trip to Cebu, they said they could lend me the Sony Cybershot DSC-W380 (although I was hoping for a WX1 hehehe). Anyway, I’m excited to try out this small shooter from Sony.

When I first held the Cybershot W380, I thought “Wow, this is one compact digital camera.” It is very light even with the batteries on but the build quality is still top-notch. Typical Sony don’t you agree? The size and weight really makes it literally pocketable and my wife would enjoy using it for our trip.
So in digital cameras, the smaller the size and lighter the weight the lesser things it can do right? Not with the DSC-W380.

Despite being strictly a point-and-shoot camera (no manual controls here), the Sony W380 packs quite a punch. 14.1 megapixel and 5x optical zoom might be boring to some but I’m more interested with the lens of this one.
The G-Lens is a lens technology from Sony that they usually reserve for their DSLR’s. Now the fast lens are also making their way into their mainstream line as well.
With an aperture range of F2.4, the DSC-W380 will perform better than your average digital camera on low-light situations even without flash on.

With the F2.4 aperture range, macro shots will have the nice blur effect.
Another thing what I like here from the first few hours I’ve been playing with it is the very quick start time. When you turn it on, you can immediately start shooting in under 2 seconds. One of the fastest I’ve used.

Trying out the Twilight Scene mode which gives the slowest shutter speed.
Other features I want to try here is the Sweep Panorama and its 720p HD recording. Very impressive features for a small, easy-to-use camera. I like!
I’ll be posting more photos from this camera and maybe a full review after our trip.
