A Vacation Trip to Coron Part 1: The Plan
My wife and I and a group of friends went to Coron, Palawan to experience the beauty the place has to offer. And we weren’t disappointed. There were six of us and it was a four-day vacation with two whole days spent on boat trips.
We went for the services of Mr. Owen Ferrer of DIY Coron to take care of our transportation, boat tours and lodging for our whole stay.

DIY Coron is a one-stop shop for those who are not familiar with the ins and outs of planning a trip to Coron. It is also a place where couples or lone travelers can join or create groups to split the cost of boat trips.
I highly recommend to form a group or join one when going to Coron. Most of the tours are done by boat and it will be expensive if you don’t have somebody to split the cost with.
We don’t know where to stay so we just asked Judith of DIY Coron to look for a decent loding place for us given our budget and requirements. She recommended Amphibi-ko which has free WiFi, air-conditioned rooms with hot and cold showers and free breakfast. I’ll write a separate post about the place soon.
Then we chose two boat tours among the four that DIY Coron is offering. Here’s a brief description of each tour which already includes grilled lunch by the way:
- Coron Island. A must-do tour for first-time Coron visitors. You get to do some snorkeling, see a shipwreck, swim at the beautiful Kayangan Lake and bum at Banol beach.
- Calauit Safari. A land trip where you can feed animals on a safari like environment. You get to see a waterfall and spend time at the hot springs as well. Not our type of thing to do on a hot summer day.
- Gutob Bay. More snorkeling and wrecks. Nice coral garden here. If you opt to for the 2-day overnight trip, you get to do the Coron Loop and spend the night at the beautiful North Cay beach.
- Malcapuya Loop. A day to spend on the beautiful beaches around Coron. You get to see Malcapuya beach, Banana beach and the gorgeous Bulog Dos beach.

If you want to further customize your trips, like mix and match some places, you can contact Owen and he’ll give you advise on how to plan your trip.
For us, we chose to do the Coron Island boat tour on our 2nd day and beach bumming via the Malcapuya tour on the 3rd day. We didn’t have any definite plans on our first day except go to Maquinit Hot Springs in the evening.
So how much did we spend on our trip? Roughly around Php5,000 each excluding the airfare which is around Php2k.
More photos in the upcoming posts. Will write about the town of Coron next and things you can do on your spare time.
Thank you DIY Coron for the hassle-free planning and for accommodating our sudden change of plans.

Hi! Iim booked for Coron this Aug 21-23. Arriving 21st around 1 pm.. So no plans for the first day. Then the whole 2nd day, I chose DIY’s Malcapuya 1 + Coron Loop. Would that be too much? I hope I still get to enjoy the beaches. I removed the ship wreck from the itinerary coz im scared. haha.
) Anyway for the 3rd day, our flight back is around 12nn. so any advice on our short but sweet trip? im so excited its gonna be my first time at coron! Thank you for your blog btw. Its very helpful.
ooohhh that would mean you can’t stay long in one spot. malcapuya is far from the coron loop but if DIY is offering it then it’s doable. enjoy coron! It’s really a beautiful place!
How long did it take you to get to malcapuya from amphibi-ko? Nasa itinerary, 2 hours papunta, 1:30 pabalik. Ganun ba talaga kalayo?
around 30-45 minutes to bulog dos, our first stop sa malcapuya loop. baka kasi you will be going there in the afternoon after the coron loop kaya mas malayo and matagal. baka rin dahil sa waves.
