Microsoft Arc Mouse, a real head turner

The Arc Mouse from Microsoft is probably one of the stylish mouse I’ve ever seen that would surely get some looks if used in public. I got mine a few weeks ago from MSI-ECS and it came in an opportune time because I’ve been hating my CD-R King mouse for a long time already.

The Arc Mouse is an optical wireless mouse and comes in different colors and the one that I receive was the red one.

It has an ergonomic feel to it despite its unusual design. It can be folded for a smaller form factor for easy storage. The small USB wireless transceiver can be magnetically clipped on the underside of the mouse when not in use.

The left and right click buttons are curved flat on the surface and the depth of click is very comfortable. Your finger won’t feel stressed at all from fast, continuous left-clicking. The scroll wheel looks cheap but it does its purpose smoothly. The scroll wheel on my previous mouse doesn’t scroll too accurately so this one’s a nice change.

As for the mouse experience itself, it’s not as smooth as I would’ve liked. I tried adjusting the sensitivity in Control Panel but I can’t find the right mix. It feels jerky for me but my wife didn’t notice it. I tried their BlueTrack mouse and using that feels more natural to use for a mouse.

One thing odd about the Arc Mouse is the extra button on the left side. It is placed too far near the tip that you can’t click it with your thumb when handling it normally. You have to claw the mouse in order to hit it. Maybe for left-handed people they can click it with their ring finger. I noticed that it can be used to go back pages on the browser.

It is powered by two AAA batteries which Microsoft claims can last for 6 months and there’s also a carrying pouch included in the package.

For Php2,685, the Arc Mouse also comes with a 3-year warranty. Is it an expensive laser mouse? Yes. But will it make a good gift? Absolutely. You won’t have to worry whether the person you’re giving it to would be unhappy with it, well unless you chose the wrong color.
