If you’re an NBA fan and you haven’t seen this video yet then shame on you. This has got to be the best NBA commercial ever which I saw last Monday while watching the season opening games. Check it out again.

I can’t help but watch it over and over again if I can. It features the current generation cleverly superimposed in photos and video clips of NBA greats of before. Some were poorly placed but others are just brilliant. Magic Johnson passing off to Kobe Bryant for a dunk. Larry Bird feeding Ray Allen for a 3. Barkley and Melo having a brief chat. Wilt rejecting a Dwight Howard hook. And how about Ewing and Amare chest-bumping?

My personal favorite is D-Rose fist-bumping Michael Jordan. I also appreciated that they included one of the best shooting guards of the NBA, the late Drazen Petrovic of the Nets, in this video. NBA Forever indeed. These are the games that you could only dream to happen.

Whoa! You gotta check this video out. Or you’ve probably had already. Anyway, this video is a trick shot battle of Dude Perfect and Brodie Smith. Best trick shot video I’ve seen so far.

Dude perfect is a quartet from Texas A&M who makes amazing videos of basketball trick shots. Brodie Smith on the other hand is a frisbee trick shot expert from Florida. The video has them showing off their respective skills trying to top each other but you gotta hand it to Brodie, flipping a frisbee from afar into a basketball hoop is just harder than shooting a basketball.

Awesome right?

Well what do you know, the former internet sensation now has a video ad with BPI Family Auto Loan. If you don’t know Christoper Lao, he’s the guy who drove his car into a flooded area and it ended up floating. The sad thing is, when he got interviewed by a news crew, he blamed the government and the people in the area. The video got uploaded to YouTube and he became an internet star in a bad way.

I don’t know if I would feel proud if I’m in that commercial but it just further made a mockery out of him I think. But I guess he wants to be back in the limelight or BPI Family paid him, a UP law student, to re-enact his misery for an advertisement. Oh well, the winner here is BPI as this video will go viral again.

Emmanuel Kelly brings X-Factor judges to tears

Heard of Emmanuel Kelly? He’s the latest find from The X-Factor talent show in Australia.

His audition piece Imagine brought the usually tough judges and the audience to tears. Well with the help of his back story of course which talent shows really try to get as much mileage on. What’s new eh?

Emmanuel was an orphan from Iraq and was brought to Australia by Moira Kelly of the Children First Foundation in Australia who eventually adopted him and his brother Ahmed. When X-Factor judge Ronan Keating asked him how old he was, Emanuel said he wasn’t sure because he and his brother were found in a box in the middle of a park without any identification or birth certificate.

Now here’s the thing. This guy has a nice voice and you can feel his passion and emotion in the way he sang, it may have even pierced your heart as you were watching him sing. However, if you didn’t hear his story nor seen him, if you just listened to him sing from the beginning, you won’t hear anything outstanding or special about his voice.

Anyway, that’s the beauty of such reality talent shows, people will be voting for you not only based on your talent but also on how you conduct yourself on stage and a little bit of sob story won’t hurt. Still, I’m all for supporting Emmanuel for the courage he showed when he joined The X-Factor. I just hope the show won’t exploit his back story more just for the ratings but I know that wouldn’t happen.

Undivided by Blush reaches #3 at the US Billboard

Well what do you know. Pan-Asian girl group Blush which we featured here a couple of times is slowly gaining traction at the US Billboard charts. Their hit single “Undivided” featuring Snoop Dogg is currently at number 3 at the US Billboard Dance charts.

It’s not my favorite song from them but I’ve been hearing it every time I go to the gym so it’s really catching up. It’s a pop song where they incorporated “I love you” in their own language, including Filipino.

The Undivided track is what they sang when they opened for The Bieber during his Hong Kong concert. It is also the song they performed along with Snoop Dogg during an episode of So You Think You Can Dance.

Blush is made up of talented girls with different Asian nationalities. Victoria is Chinese, Natsuko is from Japan, Alisha an Indian, the gorgeous Ji Hae is Korean and Angeli the Filipina. Hope I can see these girls again.

Flash mob wedding proposal went all the way

Here’s another cool wedding proposal. This time though, it went all the way. A whole lot of effort was made into the production of this proposal. Like the Disneyland proposal but on a grander scale.

The guy had help though in the form of Howie Mendel’s FOX show called Mobbed. It’s a reality TV show that takes the flash mob concept into your ordinary occasions making them extraordinary. A way to really surprise somebody… like a wedding proposal.

This one’s pretty tough to pull through because cameras should be inconspicuous at the start. But when it works, it’s really fun to watch.

Now I have mixed feelings after watching the whole thing. It started out pretty cool but I wish it just ended at the proposal part. I didn’t mind that there’s an elaborate and unrealistic production for this proposal but asking the girl to get married right then and there?

Is that what the girl really wants? A shotgun wedding? The guy and the show put her on the spot. She didn’t get to pick the dress (which looked funny on top of what she’s wearing) nor get to invite other people that she wants to see her wedding. But I guess it wouldn’t matter to the girl or her family as long as it’s a good story to tell to the kids.

If you were in the girls shoes, would you say yes to getting married right away?

Sung-Bong Choi is Korea’s Got Talent’s Paul Potts

Ok make fun of the name as much as you want but after seeing his video, you won’t be laughing at all. Not unless there’s something wrong with you.

Remember Paul Potts? He’s the unassuming mobile phone salesman who has this fantastic opera voice, who joined the first season of Britain’s Got Talent and eventually won the whole competition. If you have a good back story and a really good voice, you’re a shoo-in to win reality competitions. People just love that. Just look at Susan Boyle. or Jovit Baldivino.

Now here’s Sung-Bong Choi from Korea. He’s a 22-year old kid who joined Korea’s Got Talent. His back story? He was left at an orphanage at the age of 3, ran away at 5 after being beaten, and lived all by himself on the streets since then, doing odd jobs and selling gum and energy drinks.

Pretty nice back story right? How about his voice? Check it out.

I really don’t follow KGT but this kid is a strong bet to win the whole thing, not before he becomes the next YouTube sensation! Props to him and good luck to his future. It will surely change after the competition.

Making the Movies Jealous is the best proposal ever

I’ve seen a lot of cool wedding proposals captured on video. In fact, I wrote about 6 of the best proposals I’ve seen so far almost a year ago. However after seeing this proposal recently, I think it’s the greatest so far.

The title is Making the Movies Jealous and it’s Matt Still’s elaborate plan to propose to his girlfriend Ginny Joiner at a movie. (well duh?)

What made it awesome was that Matt created a trailer that was shown inside the theater Ginny went to with his brother to watch Fast Five. But it’s more than just a trailer, check it out.

This thing is one of the recent YouTube sensations. Fox News, UK’s The Sun, Oprah, Good Morning America and other news and radio shows has already covered this proposal. Thanks to celebrities like Jermaine Dupri, Alyssa Milano, Train, etc. showing their support, the video managed to get 10 million views in less than a week.

I just wished Matt used a better movie-quality voice for the narrator. Hehe.

On an interview, Ginny says she was definitely surprised by Matt’s clever, creative proposal. They already talked about getting married but Ginny had no idea it was coming. She was sitting in a movie theatre with her brother watching what she thought was a trailer for a coming attraction, but she soon realized it was no ordinary preview.

Matt knew he had to come up with the best proposal ever. There are a number of meaningful moments in the video that make it special, and he even included Ginny’s dad. Through much of the beginning of the video, he’s seen asking Ginny’s dad for her hand in marriage. Then, he rushes off to the theatre to make that moment happen.

Joiner and Still have known each other for 14 years. They say they were friends first, but then it became something more. If you want to be updated with Matt and Ginny, they or somebody put up a website just for this video.

Arce vs Vasquez Jr. more exciting than Pacquiao-Mosley

Now here’s the more exciting fight compared to the snoozefest of a fight between Pacquiao and Mosley. It’s definitely the fight of the night and not a lot of people are aware of it.

It’s between 25-year old WBO super bantamweight Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. (20-0-17 KOs) against the contender, veteran 31-year old Jorge Arce (56-6-43 KOs) who’s been fighting since the mid 90′s. It’s a classic case of experience versus youth. Who do you think won?

Well unlike the case of Shane and Manny, the veteran won against the upcoming star from Puerto Rico in dramatic fashion. Not with a knockout mind you but more of an unrelenting will that forced Vasquez’ corner to throw in the towel in the 12th round after their bet was getting pummeled by a flurry of punches that came out of nowhere.

Heading into the 11th round, both fighters were clearly tired. Arce got knocked down early in the fight and both ran out of gas. Ringside scorers had it at a draw before the 12th round.

At the start of the final round, Arce and Vasquez Jr. hugged before going back to fight. And that’s where Arce drew his second wind that allowed him to launch a barrage of punches that Vasquez could not defend.

Being able to watch it live was more exciting than watching Manny’s win.

Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley highlights in videos

Well it wasn’t the kind of fight most fans were expecting. People say it was boring just like the Clottey fight. Mosley didn’t show what he’s capable of and Pacquiao wasn’t able to KO him out of the fight. Anyway, it’s still a win for our Fighting Congressman who successfully defended his World Welterweight belt.

The build up was great actually. I was able to watch it live at the SM Megamall Cinema courtesy of ASUS and I really appreciated the fight complete and without advertisements.

Charice, Tyrese Gibson and Jamie Foxx

I didn’t know that Charice will be singing our national anthem so I was glad that she did a bang up job singing it the way it should be sang. Here’s a video of Charice.

And what do you know? Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson sang the US National Anthem which wasn’t bad at all while Jamie Foxx sang America the Beautiful.

Fighter’s entrance was up next and rapper LL Cool J led the way for Shane Mosley and his entourage with his single “Mama Said Knock You Out”.

And on Manny’s side? It’s the theme from Rocky III! “Eye of the Tiger” which he also used during the Clottey fight was sung by none other than Survivor’s Jimi Jamison.

Manny Pacquiao … Shane Mosley Fight!

Entering the ring, Manny quickly get on his knees in one corner for his customary prayer.

Here’s the Tale of the Tape by the way:

First two rounds went by pretty quick as both fighters were cautious trying to gauge each other. We can actually see that Pacquiao is way faster in his foot and handwork. Mosley kept on punching one at a time while Manny always uses his fast combinations.

Round 3 KO by Manny Pacquiao

Finally we saw some action in Round 3. After getting grazed by a straight left from Manny, that made Mosley back down, Pacquiao quickly followed it with a right-left combination that floored his opponent.

Mosley laid on the floor for a bit dazed. On a post-fight interview, he said that this knockdown punch was the strongest in his career.

“He surprised me with that power,” Mosley confessed. “He has speed and power that I have never felt before.”

Cat and Mouse the rest of the way

After feeling Pacman’s power, it was all defense from Mosley the rest of the way. You could see it in his eyes that he no longer has the will to fight and just want to avoid getting hurt again until the final bell.

Mosley would backpedal out of the way. Or land a punch then quickly grab Manny to avoid the counterpunch that Manny is baiting him. It was a total snoozefest, whenever he would feel Manny trying to build momentum, Shane would quickly hug him like a brother and this left a lot of fan booing.

“I don’t think he tried to win the fight, I think he just tried to survive,” said Freddie Roach, who trains Pacquiao, “and when you get to that point in boxing I think it’s time to [retire].”

Round 10 KO by Mosley

Finally on round 10 was the infamous KO of the right awarded by referee Kenny Bayless to Mosley. Actually, what happened was during one of Mosley’s hug, Manny’s foot got caught under Mosley’s who at the same time pushed him down to the floor.

The ref didn’t really saw what happened but awarded Mosley the knockdown and started counting Manny. Coach Freddie was furious about the call .Check out the replay:

I would like to call it TKO for Tinulak Ka O! Anyway, after the final bell Bayless apologized to Roach and Pacquiao for the missed call.

I think it did wonder to Manny’s energy after he got counted. It enraged him to be more aggressive and that’s what he did the rest of the way. He was on a mission launching a flurry of punches and combinations to Mosley who continued with his strategy of running away or grabbing Pacquiao ’til the final bell rang.

No different from Clottey

After all’s been said and done, Manny won by a unanimous decision. The judges’ scores were 119-108, 120-108 and 120-107, with the punch stats reflecting the disparity in action: Pacquiao landed 182 of 552 shots, compared to just 82 of 260 for Mosley.

It’s like Clottey all over again who focused more on defense than landing punches. We never get to see the real Shane Mosley and this was a disappointing outing for him this late in his career.

The result was not surprising but fans wanted more out of the fight. We have to give it to Manny for trying his best to entertain us but Mosley just won’t let him. Also, unknown to his fans, Manny suffered from leg cramps as early as the 4th round that’s why he couldn’t take advantage of his speed.

Pacquiao made a minimum of $20 million for the fight, while Mosley was guaranteed $5 million.

Paris Hilton’s new BFF

On a lighter note, Paris Hilton has a new BFF and it’s Jinkee Pacquiao. They were seen seated together during the fight and Manny invited her on stage afterwards.
