If you want to upgrade the firmware of your iPod Touch or iPhone to 3.0 but don’t have a credit card to pay the $9.95 associated with it, you can do so for free.

Here are a couple of things that you should know before you do it:
- This is not a custom firmware. It’s the original so if your iPod is jailbroken, it will unjailbreak it. No Cydia, no themes, etc.
- If you want to jailbreak it, you can check out my guide here.
You also need to upgrade your iTunes to 8.2 for this to work without a hitch.

UPDATE: Jailbreak for 3.0 is now out. Read my guide here if you’re interested.
When I woke up this morning I was excited to see that the iPhone Dev team has just released their PwnageTool for the 3.0 jailbreak. But upon reading further, I learned that the tool is only available for the Mac OS X and with a few caveats.
The just released PwnageTool for the Mac OS X cannot be used to jailbreak iPhone 3G that requires an unlock hack like yellowsn0w. No problem if your iPhone 3G does not need unlocking.
It will work fine with the iPhone 2G though. No need to unlock or anything, just follow the instructions to jailbreak.
iPod Touch 1G is good to go as well. Use Pwnage Tool to create a firmware image and restore using iTunes.
No support yet for iPod Touch 2G.
Hopefully, the QuickPwn for Windows will be released really soon. *fingers crossed*
Read the iPhone Dev-Team Blog for links and other info about this release. Hooray for Mac users.
I will be closely looking into further developments so stay tuned.

With dozens of addicting Facebook games out there it got me thinking… how do those game developers earn money?
Zynga, who has 4 games in the top 10 and pulling roughly around 36 million monthly active users must be raking in a LOT of money. But how?
First thing that popped into my mind is through those ads that appears on the side of your Facebook. Just like blogging with Google Adsense, those ads can become great moneymakers.
Upon researching some more, it’s not those ads that’s bringing in the money. Besides, if I’m playing Mafia Wars or any other games I wouldn’t bother clicking those ads.
So how do game developers earn money with Facebook? 2 ways.

Apple just announced the release of it’s OS 3.0 for the iPhone and iPod Touch this week so I was expecting that the jailbreak for it will happen weeks or even months after.
Turns out I’m wrong. The jailbreak (codenamed YellowSnow 3.0) will be released as soon as this weekend or maybe even today.
Actually, a live demo happened a couple of days ago with links for the unofficial (beta) versions of the jailbreak being broadcasted from iPhone Dev’s Twitter.
Better wait for the official release.
This time, you can even jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G (not iPhone 3G S) with the QuickPWN which is a much better tool than redsn0w or QuickFreedom.

“Ang Pinaka” (loosely translated to The Most) is a weekly TV show in QTV that features top 10 of just about anything. A couple of weeks ago, they aired the 10 most popular Facebook games of today.
They probably gauged which games to include based on the popularity among Filipinos and its monthly active users. Too bad some of the comments of the interviewees are kinda off which makes you wonder the kind of research they did for that segment.
Anyway, Here’s the list if you’re interested or didn’t / couldn’t catch that episode.

Earlier this afternoon a lot of my officemates including me experienced loss of signal on our Globe-powered mobile phones. We’re located here in Makati so I don’t know if other areas are also affected.
What happened? Care to speculate?
Globe decided to bend over and shut its services down conceding to Smart and Sun? Nah.
- An irate customer who cannot find a Globe technical support that makes sense crashed his car onto a Globe tower? Maybe.
- An extraterrestrial who got robbed off his P20 load fired an EMP wave blanketing Makati thereby blocking all of Globe’s signal? Bingo!
Whatever it is, everything went back to normal after an hour I think. But this is really bad for Globe’s already spotty reputation.

Ever since I dropped and broke my camera, I know I needed to get another one for our travels. I would still try to have it repaired but I want a second one for my wife just in case.
My criteria for choosing a new camera would have to be:
- Compact size to fit a jacket pocket
- Wide angle lens
- A lot of optical zoom (my old one has 10x)
- Not powered by AA-batteries
With those factors I know I should be looking for what tech reviewers call “pocket megazooms”. One of the most popular brand, Canon, has the Powershot SX200 IS which also features manual controls that I would be happy to play with. Unfortunately, it’s quite expensive at $350 and I don’t particularly like its build design especially the pop-up flash.
With that, I narrowed my choices down to two. I listed some of their features here and what I think about them but I still can’t decide which one to choose so I’m hoping you could help me.
